Page 1 of 6 Adirampattinam is a coastal town on the East Coast of South India in Tamil Nadu State. The town derived its name from the Pandian King ADI VEERA RAMA PANDIAN (meaning "extremely brave" Rama Pandian) who ruled the South in the 2nd Century AD "PATTINAM" means Port Town. It was also once known as "SELLI NAGAR" (selli is the name of one of the wives of Adi Veera Rama Pandian) and also called "ABATU" by the Arabs. Legend says that it was a busy port when the Chola and Pandyan dynasties ruled the waves and sea-borne trade with Sri Lanka and Burma flourished all the way upto Thailand. The town and its adjoining areas are fertile lands with plentiful acres of coconut groves, paddy fields irrigated year round by monsoon rains and canal systems from the Cauvery river built by the Chola and Pandya kings of yore. It ceased to be a port long ago with the receding of the sea and citation turning the coastal land into a swamp. Where is it Located?
